Trying to find a nice guy or girl to date isn’t always easy, but with Canadians half the battle is already won. Canadians are considered to be awfully lovely people by most of the planet. Having a charming Prime Minister always helps too. Here are even more reasons to date a Canadian and become a maple chaser!
How aboot it, eh?
Canadian’s have their own unique way of speaking and an adorable way of saying certain words. (They don’t all actually say “aboot” by the way.) At first you might wonder what is going on with the “eh” at the end of sentences, but it will grow on you.
Sweater collection
When you date a Canadian, you get to grow your collection of sweaters and go out on brunch dates in sweatpants. Soft, cozy wear in Canadian relationships signifies a long-term commitment. Canadians don’t wear their Sunday best for just anyone. What could be more perfect in life than sweaters, comfy pants, poached eggs and a lasting love?
Flannel
There are almost as many reasons to wear flannel as there are to date a Canadian. It’s warm, trendy, and looks really cool if you wear it right, because not everyone knows how to pull it off. One of the benefits of dating a Canadian is you will finally learn how to wear flannel, because they know exactly how to wear it and look good. They will probably even give you the flannel shirt off their back. Earlier this year, UNIQLO Canada opened a flannel pop-up in Toronto where customers could come in and get a shirt for free or hang it up for a newcomer to Canada. It didn’t take long for the walls to be fully covered.
Happy Holidays
You’ll get to add more dates to your roster of holidays and festivities. Canadians get some great holidays: Family Day (a day just to celebrate family), Victoria Day, Canada Day, and their very own Canadian Thanksgiving. Over bank holidays, Canadians love taking a trip or planning a getaway with some good food and beer to cottage country. When you date a Canadian, you’ll get to spend plenty of long weekends relaxing in scenic countryside and bonding over campfires.
Poutine
You’ll be treated to gourmet late-night eats. Poutine might just be a more posh version of chips (French fries), cheese and gravy, but Canadians do it in their own special way. Poutine is the country’s unofficial national dish. If you’ve met a significant other from Canada, and they ever feel a little homesick, don’t underestimate the power of this dish. Just don’t call it chips, cheese and gravy please, it’s poutine!
They chill
Canadians are pretty laid back. This might be because of the cold climate. They are used to living in a country where you get snowed in (a lot), and all you can do is chill and make the most of it.
Relaxed people have some great qualities that makes dating them easier. They go with the flow, are low maintenance and fun to hang out with. You will still have disagreements, but those things will get handled with zero drama.
They embrace other cultures and traditions
Globally, Canada has become renowned for being tolerant and open minded. When Donald Trump became President of the United States, the Canadian immigration website crashed with people looking for information on how to move there. It’s not really a surprise that people want to date Canadians. Canadians value and respect other cultures and traditions and enjoy experiencing them as well. So no matter where you are in the world, when you’re seeing a Canadian, date night will never be boring!
Physical affection
Canada’s freezing temperatures can get very low. It’s no surprise that Canadians really value warmth, and this definitely works in your favour. One of the best ways they stay warm is by sharing body heat. You’ll get lots of extra physical affection like hand holding, walking arm in arm, cuddling up on the sofa and snuggling in bed. They may live in a cold country, but Canadians have warm hearts and, according to the latest sexual research, are amazing in bed.
Relationship Goals
Mostly Canadians love the great outdoors. Each season brings its own set of activities; winter means snow sports while warmer months means rambling along the countryside and water activities on a lake. Because of their love for the great outdoors, your relationship goals will be amazing. The first time you ice skate together, the first time you hike together, the first time you go camping together, the first time you visit a lake together. Basically these relationship goals will lead to a much healthier you, and, if fresh air does wonders for an individual, imagine what it can do for your relationship?
Maple Syrup
If you love maple syrup and want to eat more of this heavenly sweet delicious amber nectar, then date a Canadian. You’re probably used to enjoying it with your pancakes and waffles, but Canadians don’t stop there. Ever had maple roasted salmon? What about BBQ food with a spicy maple syrup glaze? Maple macchiato? In theory, maple syrup works with everything, and, when you date someone from Canada, you get to have it on so much more than pancakes.
They have a certain je ne sais quoi
While French and English are both national languages of Canada, not everyone is bilingual. Most native speakers of the French language in Canada are from Quebec. Francophones are in other provinces too; there’s a sizeable minority in New Brunswick, an official bilingual province, and there are also French-speaking communities in Manitoba and Ontario as well as smaller communities in Alberta, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Saskatchewan. French language is taught in primary and secondary school, so there’s a chance that your Canadian love is well-versed.
Sense of humour
Canadians don’t take themselves too seriously and have a solid sense of humour. Canada isn’t really a paranoid country. Rather, it’s a country where the happenings throughout the rest of the world are the top stories and breaking news, unless there’s a moose on the loose. Even then, Canadians are happy to come together and have a laugh. Laughter is important and definitely helps in a relationship. A lot of people look for a partner that has a good sense of humor, but it’s not just a matter of how funny an individual is or what kind of jokes they tell. The kind of laughter that really strengthens a bond between two people is from a shared sense of humor, and, because Canadians are so open in general to other human beings, you can bet it’s happening.
